Beginner's Brass World by E.P. Stewart.
We are delighted to announce the release of a fantastic new book by E.P. Stewart - Beginner's Brass World.
Beginner's Brass World is designed to take a new brass player from Lesson 1 through to Grade 1.
The book contains 16 original pieces, each with 3 backing tracks - one for Bb instruments, one for Eb instruments and one for instruments in F, so Beginner's Brass World is the only book needed for ALL treble clef reading brass instruments.
The pieces in the book are written in a progressive way with the first piece based on the first 2 notes of the C major scale progressing through to the final piece based on the first 6 notes of the C major scale.
In addition, each of the 16 pieces also has an optional duet part which can be used in 3 different ways:
1) Played as a duet part by a teacher or pupil along with the solo part.
2) Played (along with the backing track) as alternative to the solo part by a pupil who is naturally a higher buzzer.
3) Played by a pupil to learn and develop a fuller range - up to a full octave
Beginner's Brass World also comes with 4 essential musical theory lessons.
Lesson 1 presents and explains all the musical elements that are used and seen in the book.
Lesson 2 is all about rhythm and has 5 different backing tracks the pupil can use to clap out various different rhythms.
Lesson 3 focuses on the importance of mouthpiece practice and buzzing.
Lesson 4 introduces the pupil to the important concept of playing scales, but in a gradual and progressive manner complimentary with the 16 pieces in the book.
Finally, there are 4 pages of flash cards that come with Beginner's Brass World..
These should be cut out to form a pack of 32 cards. Each flash card shows one written musical element found in the book and these should be used to reinforce the learning experience in fun way, providing an instant sense of achievement for the pupil.
The flash cards also have 3 subsections. Set 1, Set 2 and Set 3 and there are three games suggested in the book.

As a fan of warm-ups and daily routines for brass instruments, I constantly focus on breathing and buzzing exercises allied to the concept of singing and playing with the best sound you can get from the very beginning of your day.
I strongly believe that a flow of exercises starting with breathing, buzzing, and playing different scales and arpeggios in all ranges, articulations and dynamics, is the way to go for a healthy day of playing.
In his book "Sing, Buzz, Blow, Play", Mark Reynolds achieves exactly that and much more.

As brass players sometimes we forget that “we are the instrument” and not the instrument or mouthpiece itself and “Sing, Buzz, Blow, Play” help students to remember that very easily and with a very good structure.
In an era where the flow of information is very chaotic, “Sing, Buzz, Blow, Play” give the students a clear way to strengthen their basics and so a clear path to a good future!

“Sing, Buzz, Blow, Play” is amazingly clear and precise to the student as it gets! This is a great tool and resource that can help the player to refine the internal audiation of sound and teach them to transfer that directly to the lips. For those looking for a break down of the Song and Wind pedagogy, this is it. Bravo, and well done, Mark!

A recent review of Sing, Buzz, Blow, Play by Aaron Tindal
‘Sing, Buzz, Blow, Play is a must own for every tubist! The basic approach every player has to build from at first as it touches on many of the key elements needed to become a successful tubist and brass player. This book has my recommendation, and I look forward to seeing the other versions/keys as it should become a part of every aspiring player’s library. Well done, Mark!’

Some reviews about 'Sing, Buzz, Blow, Play
‘Sing, Buzz, Blow, Play’ by mark Reynolds has certainly made an impact since it went on sale earlier this month.
Here are some recent reviews about the book:
A concise and superbly compiled approach to the fundamental techniques of the EEB tuba.
This is the first time I've seen a comprehensive variety of exercises in one place and specific to an EEb bass clef instrument.
Jonathan Gawn - Principal Tuba Scottish Ballet & former principal Royal AIr Force Music Services & Orquesta Sinfonica de Tenerife'.
Having studied with, started a brass ensemble with, and often played in orchestras together, I have heard Mark warm up a lot!!
He is the kind of player it is lovely to share a warm up room with. I think the book, if you strive for the beauty of sound that Mark has, will help many brass players of all levels.
Christopher Dicken, principal trumpet Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen
As a tuba playing manual it is brilliant and should be on everyone’s music stand.
Tony Swainson. Senior Low Brass lecturer, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland

News of my new Sonata for Tuba and Piano
New Sonata for Tuba and Piano
Over the last few months I’ve been working on a new Sonata for Tuba and Piano which (hopefully) will be getting premiered in August this year which is something I am very excited about, and it will be available on the website thereafter.
For me this is a very important work as it represents the first major work that I’ve written for tuba and piano in my writing career, despite being a tuba player myself.
All I can say about the new Sonata at the moment is that it will be in three movements, it will be approximately 12 minutes long and in terms of difficulty it will be suitable for an advanced student to play at a final college recital or exam.
More news on my new Sonata for Tuba in the coming months, including the details of the premiere etc.
